From 1st January 2026, GNC researcher and psychologist Caroline Mårland has been awarded an ALF position for licensed and non-licensed healthcare professionals with a doctoral degree to work on a project entitled "Children with autism grow up: from childhood to middle age.”

Over the next two years, Caroline will dedicate 50% of her time to this project, which aims to deepen understanding of the long-term development and needs of individuals with autism as they transition from childhood into adulthood and middle age. Collaborating closely with Eva Billstedt and other colleagues at GNC, this project will bring important new insights into an often-overlooked area of autism research.

In addition to the position funding, the project itself has secured 200,000 SEK per year in ALF funding, further supporting the research activities.

“This opportunity means a lot — both for me personally and for the advancement of autism research. I’m excited to continue contributing to GNC’s mission and to work more closely with such a dedicated team of researchers," Caroline Mårland said.

With a strengthened focus on long-term outcomes for individuals with autism, the project is expected to fill critical gaps in knowledge and contribute to better healthcare and support systems across the lifespan.
