We check for chemicals in water in several of our research projects.
Water is crucial for life. In our case studies, FRAM investigates chemical pollution on ecosystem services that are provided by rivers, lakes and coastal areas.

Environmental status

Environmental chemical status is in one of our three research areas. Here, we investigate what chemicals are found in the environment and what effects they have on the biota.

In this research area, we focus on the impact of chemical pollution on ecosystem services that are provided by rivers, lakes and coastal areas. We investigate what chemical pollutants we can find in in the natural aquatic ecosystems in our case studies and what effects the pollutants have. In the case studies, we do analysis of organic and inorganic components in water and sediments, their speciation, their responses to environmental stressors and their interaction with other contaminants. It is impossible to study all individual organisms, instead, we study the effects on the genomic level. The effect studies are conducted both experimentally in the laboratory and in the field.
