About Patrik Vulkan

Background: Patrik Vulkan is a senior lecturer in sociology at the Department of Sociology and Work91̽»¨s. He completed his doctorate in 2016 with the thesis "The Microfoundations of Flexicurity - Employee's well-being and attitudes to labor market policy in a Swedish and Nordic Welfare state setting". Vulkan was also a post-doc at the Department of Ergonomics, KTH, 2018-2020.

Research areas: Vulkan's main research areas are working life and labor market issues. His specific research concerns: employee flexibility and job security and how this affects their well-being and attitudes to labor market policies; if good leadership can compensate for stress; union organizing; the development and role of low-wage work in the Swedish labor market.

Current research: Vulkan is currently working within two research projects: Low-wage jobs in the Swedish labor market 2005-2020. What are the jobs, where are they located and what explains their development? (2020-2023), as well as The emergence of low-wage jobs in the Swedish labor market – A systematic overview of decompetitive research perspectives (2020-2022). Both projects are financed by Forte.

Teaching and supervision: Vulkan teaches mainly in working life, labor market and quantitative method at both basic and advanced level. He also supervises bachelor's theses in sociology and work science. He is also the program manager for the bachelor's program in Work 91̽»¨, where he is also the course supervisor for Research Methodology in Occupational 91̽»¨ XX5160.
