About Marizela Kljajic

I am a licensed psychologist with specialist qualifications in clinical psychology and a PhD in neuropsychology, with a particular focus on craniosynostosis. My professional specialisation lies in child and adolescent psychology as well as neuropsychology, and for over a decade I have worked clinically with patients with craniofacial conditions in Sweden.

In addition to my clinical practice, I am an active researcher in the field of craniofacial surgery and the psychological aspects of rare diagnoses. My research explores the cognitive, emotional, and psychosocial consequences of living with craniofacial conditions, and I work to improve clinical support and long-term follow-up for affected children, adolescents, and their families.

I am also involved in the European Reference Network ERN Cranio, where I lead the working group for psychologists.

Furthermore, I am a guest lecturer at the Ã…grenska Foundation, a national centre of expertise that runs family programmes for children with rare conditions. There, I teach about the psychological aspects of visible differences and rare diagnoses.

I also teach developmental psychology within the nursing programme at the University 91̽»¨, both at undergraduate and specialist levels.

Through my combined clinical, academic, and organisational experience, I have acquired in-depth knowledge of the interplay between medical treatment, mental health, and quality of life in individuals with craniofacial diagnoses. My goal is to promote a holistic and evidence-based approach to care that addresses the medical, psychological, and social needs of people with rare conditions.
