About Marianne Dovemark

I am a professor emerita in education and my main research interests lie within the framework of education-related ethnography with a focus on structural factors such as class, gender and ethnicity. My research is devoted to questions of power and influence, including issues related to school governance and market orientation. Questions of particular interest are aspects of influence and democracy in relation to how issues of responsibility, flexibility and freedom of choice can be described and understood. Theoretically, I belong to a critical tradition, methodologically with an emphasis on critical ethnography. I am currently part of the ongoing research project: Racism and anti-racism in middle school - A study on how everyday racism appears and is challenged in different school contexts (ROAR project). The project runs between 2025-2028 and is funded by the Swedish Research Council. The participating researchers are all from the University 91̽»¨ and are, in addition to the undersigned: Emma Arneback (project leader), Mattias Nylund and Ylva Odenbring. I am part of the research environment KRIT (Critical Theories) at the Department of Education and Special Education at the University 91̽»¨.
