About Kristian Daneback

Background

I am a Professor of Social Work at the University 91̽ and, since October 2024, Head of the Department of Sociology and Work 91̽. I have previously held several senior academic leadership roles at the university, including Acting Dean and Deputy Dean at the Faculty of Social 91̽s, with responsibilities for finance, quality assurance, work environment, environmental issues, and collaboration. I have also served as Chair of the Faculty Board, the Appointments Committee, the Heads of Department Council, the Local Work Environment Committee, and the Campus Committee, as well as a member of the Vice-Chancellor’s Executive Council and the University Library Board.

At the Department of Social Work, I have served as Deputy Head with responsibility for research and doctoral education, as well as Director of Postgraduate Studies. My work is characterized by a strong international engagement. From 2012 to 2015, I held a research and teaching position at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic, and during the autumn of 2010, I was a visiting researcher at the University of Texas in Houston, USA.

Research

My research focuses on how digital technology influences various social phenomena and everyday life. Specifically, I have studied internet-related sexuality, digital parenthood, and cyberbullying. I also conduct research on sexuality, parenthood, and bullying in a broader sense, as well as on scientific methods and the philosophy of science.

My scholarly output includes just under 100 publications, primarily in peer-reviewed international journals, along with numerous book chapters and research reports. The research is often interdisciplinary and internationally anchored.

Teaching

I have taught and supervised at all levels in the field of social work, with a particular focus on doctoral education. I have supervised a large number of PhD students, both as principal and co-supervisor, in Sweden and internationally. My teaching has primarily focused on research methods, philosophy of science, and topics related to my research areas.

Academic Service

I have extensive experience in academic leadership and expert evaluation. I am a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy and the International Journal of Sexual Health, and previously served as Associate Editor of Cyberpsychology: Journal of Psychosocial Research on Cyberspace. I regularly serve as a peer reviewer for international academic journals and research funding bodies, and I have been appointed as an expert in faculty recruitment and promotion processes.

In 2022, I was a member of the evaluation panel that reviewed all doctoral programmes at the Faculty of Social 91̽s, Uppsala University.
