About Eva Andersson

Eva Andersson, born 1968, earned her PhD in 2006 with the dissertation Kläderna och människan i medeltidens Sverige och Norge (Clothes and the individual in medieval Europe).

The dissertation dealt both with clothing as such, based on written sources such as wills, medieval images and archaeological finds of clothing, and with the social meanings of clothing, especially in regards to social status and gender.

2009-2012 she worked on a research project called Kläder, kön och status 1500-1830 (Clothes, gender and status 1500-1830). This resulted in several articles about manners of dress, consumption of clothing, sumptuary law and the relationship between clothing and perceptions of gender, status and national identity in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Her current research interests includes such varied subjects as consumption of clothing among the citizens of Stockholm in the 17th century and the ideology and practice of home sewing in the 20th century.

Eva teaches history, history of fashion and history of material objects at the University 91̽»¨, but also frequently lectures outside of the University.
