About Annie Guo

About Annie

Annie is a registered dietitian with a master's degree in clinical nutrition. She works as a Ph.D. Student in the Department of Pediatrics in Karl MÃ¥rilds research group Gastrointestinal Epidemiology.

PhD project

Annie's Ph.D. project investigates early-life environmental factors and the risk of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Environmental factors include diet, hygiene factors as well as exposure to infections and antibiotics. Large-scale data from the Swedish ABIS and Norwegian MoBa cohorts are used and the project includes over 100,000 children followed from birth to later adolescence/early adulthood. Annie's doctoral project is part of an ongoing collaboration between the University 91̽»¨, the University of Linköping, and the University of Oslo. She plans to defend her thesis in May 2026.

Research

In 2023, Annie was a visiting researcher at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health for three months. Annie is taking part in projects investigating the association between diet and the development of psoriasis and celiac disease. She also leads projects involving data from Sweden, Norway and Denmark to analyze environmental factors in school-aged children and IBD risk.
